What Does Purge From Cache Mean in WordPress

purging cache using WP Super Cache plugin

What is the best WordPress Cache Plugin?

There are tons of WordPress cache plugins, which one you use will depend on your skill level and your budget. You can choose a plugin by reading all the reviews and testing them on your own. But, I have tried quite a few of them and these are the three I recommend.

W3 Total Cache WordPress cache plugin

W3 Total Cache (Best Free Option)

W3 Total Cache is one of the best free WordPress cache plugins.  It has been installed over a million times and has a great reputation. If you search for caching plugins, you will find this one on everyone’s list. This is a comprehensive plugin and includes a ton of key features that include:

  • Page caching
  • Database caching
  • Object caching
  • Browser caching
  • CDN integration
  • Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) support
  • Minification of CSS, Javascript, and HTML

W3 Total Cache is free but it also has a premium option for $99 a year.  Because it has so many features it can be confusing for a beginner to use. If you don’t understand all the options, it’s best to use the default settings. You can also pay for premium support which includes options such as a performance audit of your site, plugin configuration, and even hosting environment troubleshooting.

WP Super Cache WordPress caching plugin

WP Super Cache (Best for Beginners)

WP Super Cache is another free WordPress plugin. It has been installed by more than 2 million users. It is probably the easiest caching plugin to use. If you are looking for a beginner-friendly caching plugin this is the best option.

WP Super Cache generates static HTML files and stores them on your server. Each time someone visits your website, they will be served the HTML file rather than the dynamic WordPress page.  You do not need to configure anything. You can simply use the easy mode and check the box to enable caching.  If you want to purge the cache, click the button that says delete cache.
